A bit of History

There is a lot written as to the origin of Valentine’s Day. Some Historians have theorised that the event is derived from various historical characters, but the consensus is that the occasion arises from St. Valentine, a Roman who was martyred for refusing to denounce Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 A.D which has become or current day of love and romance. Legend also records that St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer’s daughter, who had become his special friend, and signed it “From Your Valentine”. Gradually, the 14th of February became the date for exchanging love messages and St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers. The day was marked by the sending of poems and simple gifts such as flowers.

In the USA, Miss Esther Howland is given credit for sending the very first valentine cards. Commercial printed valentines cards were introduced in the 1800’s and the spirit of love and romance continues today as valentines cards are sent out with sentimental verses and many children exchange valentine cards at school. In recent years the rise of the Valentines Day Ecard has seen the birth of a new way of sending romantic messages to your loved one, and it has become one of the busiest days of the year for Katie’s Cards.

Lanterns for Chinese New Year Ecards

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

We have created an ethereal and spiritual Chinese New Year Ecard. Someone mentioned that it looked a bit like an advert for HSBC but I don’t think so. The card we created for Chinese New Year last year was surprisingly popular so we are hoping this one is also received well.

Happy New Year to you all, hope you had a great Christmas holidays and Santa brought you everything you hoped for.

Katie’s Cards had the busiest Christmas period ever, thank you for your support. The pre Christmas rush meant that there was no time to post information about the new Christmas Ecards added to the site in those crazy couple of weeks, so here they are, better late than never?

This year we have taken a new direction, and have created three interactive Christmas Ecard games, first up is the MP snowball game where you have the unique opportunity of lobbing snowballs at your favorite political party leader, by the way it’s called ‘Lob The Leader’

Next is ‘A Christmas Carol’ Ecard game, in this age of spending cuts it just seemed right. Scrooge is kindly throwing pennies out of his bedroom window, and you must help Tiny Tim collect as many as he can. Watch out for the humbugs!

And finally we can offer you the Turkey Shoot Ecard game, it basically does what it says on the tin: Christmas turkeys jump up and you shoot them!

And finally on a more traditional Christmas Ecard note we have created this atmospheric, emotive ecard featuring a stag climbing a mountain, and maturing along the way.
