New Ecard Category Announced!

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

We are delighted to announce that we have a new ecard category on the Katie’s Cards website! Our new ‘Wise Words’ ecard collection, which we will continue to add to over the coming months, is very different from anything we have done before. These ecards feature some wonderful quotations from the likes of Gandhi, Twain and Thoreau, to name but a few.

If you know of someone in need of a little guidance and inspiration, these ‘notes on a postcard’ style ecards are just the thing. Although the first two in the collection are both about love, future designs will cover a wide range of themes. You can view the full collection by clicking here.

Happy Anniversary William and Kate!

Monday, April 29th, 2013

Today is the second wedding anniversary of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. Since their beautiful wedding ceremony in Westminster Abbey in April of 2011, the pair have become the nation’s sweethearts. They are much-loved around the world and are expecting their first baby this summer.

We at Katie’s Cards wish the couple well and, like everyone else, are excited about finding out whether they will be having a boy or a girl!

Earth Day Island

Friday, April 26th, 2013

Though many of you will have received the Earth Day ecard from us on April 22nd, it certainly isn’t a message which is only appropriate for one day of the year. The story and graphics, put together by our animators, tell the tale of a mariner who has been shipwrecked on a desert island. But his delight soon turns to despair after he manages to use up all of the resources in the micro-environment…

In addition to being able to find the ecard on our website, you can also find it on our Katie’s Cards YouTube channel. Feel free to share it with your family and friends too if you’d like to spread the message!

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day is one of the most important days in the ‘eco’ calendar, with over one billion people taking part in Earth Day celebrations and campaigns around the world. We’ve released our first ever Earth Day ecard which you can view here on the Katie’s Cards website.

We’ve also made a donation to the Plant a Billion campaign in honour of Earth Day – you can find out more about brilliant campaign here.

Earth Day 2013 Theme Announced!

Wednesday, April 17th, 2013

The Earth Day Network has announced that the theme for Earth Day 2013 will be ‘The Face of Climate Change.’ This theme aims to highlight the fact that climate change is already having significant effects around the world. The Earth Day Network is encouraging people to submit pictures of places, people or animals which have either already been affected by climate change, or which are dangerously close to being so.

You can find out more about Earth Day here on the official website and, don’t forget, we have a brand new Earth Day ecards coming soon to the Katie’s Cards website!

Upcoming April Events

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

April is a little quieter than March was, but that doesn’t mean that there’s not plenty to celebrate:

The Queen’s Birthday (21st April) – This is the Queen’s actual birthday and not her official birthday (which falls in June). The Queen usually holds small private celebrations, though there will be gun salutes in central London. This year is her 87th birthday!

Earth Day (22nd April) – In the Katie’s Cards office, we’re all really looking forward to Earth Day and we released a sneak peek of our first ever Earth Day ecard in our most recent blog post. We’ve also made a donation to the Plant a Billion campaign, which you can learn more about here.

ANZAC Day (25th April, Australia) – This is the day that Australians commemorate those who have served and died in peacekeeping operations, conflicts and wars. Commemorative ceremonies and services will be held at dawn across Australia. ANZAC  stands for ‘Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.’

If you can think of any other important April dates then please get in touch! You can contact us via our Facebook page, Twitter, or by emailing us at katie@katiescards.com

Eco-Friendly Buzz

Monday, April 15th, 2013

Here at Katie’s Cards, we’re always thinking of ways in which we can help the environment and can be as eco-friendly as possible. One of the campaigns that has caught our eye recently is the Save the Bees campaign. The great British bumble bee is becoming increasingly endangered which is bad news not only for the little furry fellows but also for humans. Bees play a key role in sustaining the flora and fauna of Great Britain and one-third of our diet depends on them carrying out their busy-bee work.

By discouraging the use of insecticides, by learning more about the importance of bees to our lives and by planting bee-friendly plants in our gardens, we can all do out bit to save the bees. For more information about this campaign, visit this website.

If there are any other environmental issues you think we should be blogging about then please contact us at katie@katiescards.com. We’d love to hear your suggestions!

Who knew?

Sunday, April 14th, 2013

Since we’re often trying to devise new birthday ecard designs, we thought it would be fun to try to unearth some lesser known birthday facts to inspire us …

– Though, to me, it always seems like there are tonnes of birthdays in March and April, about 9% of all people celebrate their birthdays in August, making it the month with the highest birth rate! It is followed by July and September.

'Floral Birthday' birthday e card from www.katiescards.com

‘Floral Birthday’ birthday e card from www.katiescards.com

– Allegedly, the date on which the least number of people are born is the 22nd of May.

– In contrast, the highest number of people are born on the 5th October … 9 months after New Year’s Eve.

– Around eighteen million people sing the ‘Happy Birthday’ song every day (though I’m not sure how anyone could work this out!)

Do you have any surprising birthday facts that you’d like to share with us? If so, comment under this post or email your suggestions to katie@katiescards.com. If you know anyone who has a birthday coming up, why not include one of these fun facts in their ecard?

Fun April Facts

Saturday, April 13th, 2013

We’re midway through the month now but we thought we’d share some of our fun April facts with you! The root of this word lies in the Latin verb ‘Aperire’ which means ‘to open’ because it’s (usually) the time of year when flowers bloom, animals emerge from hibernation and birds fly the nest…There always seem to be tonnes of birthdays in April so here are a few fun facts for those born this month:

– The birthstone is the diamond.

– The April flower is the beautiful sweetpea.

– Those born this month are either Aries (March 21st – April 20th) or Taurus (April 21st – May 20th).

– If you’re born this month you may share a birthday with Emma Thompson (15th), Kofi Annan (8th) or the Queen (21st).

Friday, April 12th, 2013

We are delighted to announce that we will soon be unveiling our first ever Earth Day ecard! Earth Day is on April 22nd and is an important date in the eco-calendar. All of our ecards are environmentally friendly and we’re always thinking of ways in which we can be as green as possible, so Earth Day seemed to be the perfect opportunity to a create a new ecard to add to the collection.

We hope that each time our Earth Day ecard is sent, a little more awareness will be raised about the importance of protecting our environment.

Now, from this first clip of the ecard, can you tell what the story might be?

All you need is love…?

Thursday, April 11th, 2013

We’ve blogged in the past about the ways in which you can try to save a few pennies when planning your wedding and, in the current economic climate, many people are tightening their purse strings. Certain couples haven’t had such concerns … Back in 2002, at the wedding of Liza Minnelli and David Guest, the flowers reportedly cost $700,000 and, in 1991, Elizabeth Taylor’s famous pale yellow Valentino gown cost $30,000. More recently, Prince William and Kate Middleton spent $80,000 on their beautiful eight-tiered cake!

So, if you’re planning your wedding and aren’t planning to spend millions (or even if you are and just fancy being a little kinder to the environment) then take a look at our beautiful collection of wedding day ecards. You can send unlimited numbers of ecards throughout the duration of your membership and can therefore send all of your Save the Date cards for the equivalent cost of just one or two printed cards.

It’s National Poetry Month!

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013

April is National Poetry Month in both the U.K and the U.S.A and so libraries, schools and publishers will be holding festivals, workshops and poetry readings to celebrate it. The month-long festival aims to encourage people to indulge in the joys of poetry and highlights the importance of poetry in the national curriculum.

So, if you’re a poetry buff, someone who would like to get more into poetry or if you teach poetry and literature to children, then National Poetry Month is the perfect way to get inspiration. Why not get creative with the way you celebrate this ancient art? Write a poem on the pavement in chalk, organise a poetry reading or sign up for a poetry class. If you’re looking for a good place to start with poetry then visit the Poetry Archive website where you can listen to over a hundred poets reading their work.

Dinner Party Invitations

Saturday, April 6th, 2013

Since the clocks went recently went forward, we’re finally getting more hours of sunshine each day. The longer daylight hours give us more energy and encourage us to do something fun instead of getting an early night. Why not take advantage of these longer evenings by hosting a dinner party? Invite a few friends over, cook a lovely meal and crack open some wine to toast the daylight savings.

Dinner invite

We have some delightful dinner party ecard invitations on the Katie’s Cards website and, since many people spend a lot of time at their computer, sending invitations via email is an effective way to reach them. Additionally, they can easily RSVP so you can get an idea of numbers. To view our full collection of invitation ecards, please visit the Katie’s Cards website by clicking here.

Spring Clean

Friday, April 5th, 2013

Though it seems (here in the U.K. at least) that spring will never come, we are told that it’s on its way. Besides longer daylight hours, warm breezes and spring flowers, this can only mean one thing … It’s time for a spring clean! For many people, this means sprucing up their house, giving the rooms a lick of fresh paint and getting out in the garden to do the jobs which were put off during the chilly winter months.

New Home Ecard

For others, this means buying or renting a new house and we have some lovely New Home ecards which are perfect for this occasion.
