New ‘Belated Birthday’ Ecard

Friday, May 31st, 2013

You might remember that earlier in the month we gave you a behind-the-scenes peek at the making of one of our ecards. We’re now delighted to reveal that the ‘belated birthday’ ecard is up on the Katie’s Cards website. It’s the first ‘belated birthday’ ecard we’ve made and we hope that the humour of the ecard soothes any bad feelings if you’ve forgotten an important date…

All our birthday ecards can be pre-scheduled ahead of time so, technically, there shouldn’t be a reason to miss anyone’s birthday ever again! If it does happen, however, at least this ecard will be there to save the day…

Introducing … Little Cherry

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

Little Cherry Logo

This week we would like to introduce you to a lovely company called Little Cherry which is based in Surrey, not too far from Katie’s Cards.

Little Cherry sells a range of beautiful products for parties, weddings and birthdays. Their natural tableware is made from sugar cane, unbleached wheat fibres and palm leaf – it’s stylish, sustainable and ethically sourced. So stylish, in fact, that their natural palm leaf plates were used for the wrap parties of both Skyfall and Les Miserables last year!

Eco-Friendly Weddings – Featuring Shropshire Petals

Monday, May 20th, 2013

Today’s blog post is about the lovely Shropshire Petals company. Shropshire Petals is a family business which shares our sustainable, eco-friendly ethos and provides a beautiful service for weddings. Eco-friendly weddings are becoming increasingly popular yet sourcing everything you need to make your wedding suitably ‘green’ can be tricky, and that’s where Shropshire Petals comes in.

Shropshire Petals Confetti Fun!

Shropshire Petals Confetti Fun!

The company provides a modern, eco-friendly twist to traditional confetti by providing 100% biodegradable natural petal confetti and believe us when we say it is BEAUTIFUL.

A lot of venues no longer allow synthetic confetti and so, since throwing confetti over the bride and groom is such a lovely tradition (which dates back over two centuries!), Shropshire Petals decided to come up with an eco-friendly alternative. The result was their beautifully romantic petal confetti.

The flowers are all grown on a farm in Shropshire and each petal is hand-picked. You can choose petals from a wide range of flowers including cornflowers, hydrangea, roses, lavender and delphiniums to create your own unique confetti combination.

Today is National Circus Day so we thought it appropriate to make our ‘ecard of the day’ circus-themed. Watch the newlyweds daringly swing into each other’s arms in this circus wedding ecard – it’s such a fun and quirky way to send your congratulations.

Tweet Tweet

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

We thought it would be helpful to do a blog post which explains exactly what we use Twitter for. Twitter can seem a little confusing but it can be a wonderful, snappy way of keeping up-to-date with events, current affairs and things that interest you. It also has practical benefits – you can often tweet restaurants to book a table, for example.

Twitter Icon

Here at Katie’s Cards we use it to make announcements about new ecards or changes to the website and to follow people who have similar interests to us: arts, crafts and environmental issues, for example. You don’t have to become an avid tweeter if you sign up, you can just use it to follow people that interest you. You can find Katie’s Cards here.

If you’re feeling social, then why not check out our Facebook and Pinterest pages too?

It’s Tulip Day!

Monday, May 13th, 2013

Today is National Tulip Day! I love tulips – they’re so bright and bold and come in so many different colours and shapes. Did you know that there are over 3,000 different types?! This image of tulip fields in the Netherlands is so inspiring, just look at those colours!

Birthday Flowers Ecard

Since it’s Tulip Day, we thought it fitting that our ‘ecard of the day’ includes some of these fabulous flowers. Click on the image above to be taken to our website where you can watch the floral letters bloom and grow into a happy birthday message…

Happy Mother’s Day!

Sunday, May 12th, 2013

Though here in the United Kingdom (where Katie’s Cards is based) we celebrated Mother’s Day back in March, today is Mother’s Day in the United States and in many other countries around the world. It’s a wonderful time to show your Mum just how much you appreciate her.

Mother’s Day Celebrations Around the World

Friday, May 10th, 2013

This Sunday, Mother’s Day will not only be celebrated in the United States but also in many other countries around the world – from Brazil to the Bahamas, from Hong Kong to Switzerland, and from Tonga to Malaysia.

Gardener Ecard

The origins of Mother’s Day differ from country to country. In Bolivia, for example, the day commemorates a specific battle during the Bolivian War of Independence during which many female fighters were killed. In Israel, it honours Henrietta Szold who rescued Jewish children from the Nazis. In France, Mother’s Day celebrations stem from the early 1900s when the government was concerned with falling birth rates and so it praised the mothers of large families.

Around the world, mothers are treated to flowers, gifts and cards. If you want to make your mum feel extra special this Sunday, then send her one of our lovely Mother’s Day ecards and it will reach her instantly, wherever she may be in the world.

Flower Month

Thursday, May 9th, 2013

This month is flower month and what better excuse to get out in the garden and get your hands dirty. Though you need to watch out for late frosts, this is the time of the year when the air becomes filled with the smell of freshly cut grass and your garden bursts into life. The Royal Horticultural Society have a wealth of tips about what to plant and when which you can view here on their website.

Bringing Katie’s Ecards to Life

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

Have you ever wondered how we make our ecards? Well, we’re about to give you a behind the scenes sneak peek and we’ll use our new ‘belated birthday’ ecard (which is still being worked on) as an example.

Firstly, one of our illustrators starts to sketch some of the characters, you can see that the lighter pencil marks show how the character will move when its animated…

Then the characters get brought to life a little more….

That’s where we’re up to with this ecard (and we don’t want to give too much away!) but the next stage involves animating the image and choosing some music to accompany it. If you’ve got any ideas about future ecards that we could make then please do get in touch. You can email us via katie@katiescards.com, tweet us on our Twitter page or write on our Facebook wall. We’d love to hear from you!

Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Sunday, May 5th, 2013

Cinco de Mayo is a wonderfully vibrant festival. Though it’s often confused with Mexican Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo commemorates The Battle of Puebla during which a small Mexican army was victorious over the French, who were invading the country. Today, Cinco de Mayo is widely celebrated in the United States, and also in Mexico. The streets are filled with parades, the sounds of the mariachi bands and delicious Mexican food and margaritas are the order of the day!

We’ve put together an ‘everything you need to know’ Cinco de Mayo lens on Squidoo which you can view here. We also have a Pinterest board which is full of tasty Mexican recipes and fun decorating tips which you can view here.

Mother’s Day Countdown…

Friday, May 3rd, 2013

Mother’s Day is fast-approaching in the USA and, though in the United Kingdom (where we’re based) we celebrated Mother’s Day back in March, we still have a diverse collection of Mother’s Day ecards available for you to send on the Katie’s Cards website. Watch the artist’s brush paint a beautiful vase of flowers on our Painted Flowers Mother’s Day ecard or see Supermum soar around saving the day; whatever your mum’s tastes and interests are, we hope to have them covered.

May day!

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

May Day is celebrated across Europe and has been for hundreds of years. In fact, the first May Day celebrations were in Roman times – the Romans would celebrate the Goddess of Flowers and the start of the warmer, more prosperous months. It’s a beautiful time of year with flowers blooming and trees blossoming and May Day signifies the start of summer throughout the Northern Hemisphere.

In the United Kingdom, traditions include Morris dancers, maypole dancing and the making of floral garlands. If you want to add a spring to someone’s step then one of our bright and beautiful e cards is sure to do the trick, and each one can be customised to include your own personal message. You can view our full collection of e cards here on the Katie’s Cards website.
