New Birthday E Card Sneak Peek

Tuesday, June 25th, 2013

Here’s a sneak peek of one of our new birthday e cards which will be available very soon on the Katie’s Cards website. It features an intrepid explorer making his way through the jungle and stumbling upon some ancient ruins…

This is one of the first pencil sketches our illustrator produced for the ecard. It’s not actually the first jungle-themed ecard we’ve produced – it joins our Jungle Jingle ecard which is perfect to send to any young children or animal lovers on their birthday. You can view our full collection of birthday ecards here on the Katie’s Cards website.

Time for Tennis

Monday, June 24th, 2013

The Wimbledon Tennis Championships start today and, seeing as the Katie’s Cards office is just a short distance away from Wimbledon, we’re certainly feeling the excitement. Here are a couple of fun facts to get you in the mood:

– It’s the biggest single annual sporting catering operation in the whole of Europe and it involves A LOT of strawberries and cream – 28,000kg of strawberries to be precise!

– This year, competitors will be awarded a grand total of £22,560,00 in prize money by the All England Club.

-The longest ever match, which was in 2010, was between Nicolas Mahut and John Isner and it went on for a staggering eleven hours and five minutes! Luckily, they didn’t play it all in one day…

– If the roof was closed, you could fit 290 million tennis balls inside the Centre Court.

We found these facts here on the Wimbledon website where you can find out all you’d ever want to know about this brilliantly British tournament.

Birthday E Card of the Week

Thursday, June 20th, 2013

This week’s birthday e card of the week is our ‘birthday fireworks’ card. Watch the boat cruise along in front of the city skyline as the lights in the skyscrapers gradually come on to reveal a bright and bold birthday message.

This card is part of a large collection of birthday e cards on the Katie’s Cards website and we’re always trying to think of fun and creative ideas for new cards. National Smile Month

Tuesday, June 18th, 2013

This month is National Smile Month, I’m not quite sure who makes up these events but it seems like a good one to acknowledge! We have a selection of ecards that you can send ‘just because’ and we’re sure that they’d bring a smile to anyone’s face. Our ‘thinking of you’ cards are perfect to send to someone who is going through a tough time and our note cards are a great way in which to send someone a little message to brighten up their day.

'Thinking of You' Ecard

‘Thinking of You’ Ecard

We’re also planning to add to our new ‘Wise Words’ category which are appropriate to send at any time of the year. You don’t need to have a special occasion to send a card, in fact, sending one ‘just because’ can often mean so much more.

Coming soon…

Monday, June 17th, 2013

I am delighted to announce that we will be adding some new ecards to our ‘wise words’ category very soon. The new cards feature the philosophical words of Epictetus, the musings of Audrey Hepburn and the words of George Eliot. The new ecards will join the two ‘wise words’ ecards already available on the site, which we added in April.

You can view and send these cards, which feature the words of Aristotle and Gandhi, by clicking here.

Two thirds of people don’t know when Father’s Day is! Are you one of them?

Friday, June 14th, 2013

A recent survey by the Royal Mail found that more than two thirds of people in the U.K. don’t know that Father’s Day is this Sunday, the 16th June. This seems odd considering that seventy per cent of people surveyed thought that Father’s Day deserves the same recognition as Mother’s Day.

Over half of the fathers surveyed said that they would love to receive a card so what are you waiting for? Choose an ecard from our brilliant Father’s Day collection and make sure your dad knows that he hasn’t been forgotten this Sunday!

Is Father’s Day less important than Mother’s Day?

Thursday, June 13th, 2013

Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 16th, yet will many people be celebrating it? For some reason, it is often treated as second best to Mother’s Day. Many people argue that, since Father’s Day was officially acknowledged more recently than Mother’s Day, it lacks historical and religious significance. Others argue that it is a purely commercial holiday.

In Thailand, Father's Day is celebrated on December 5th - the current King's birthday. Traditionally, people give their fathers a Canna flower to show their appreciation.

However, Father’s Day was first celebrated approximately four thousand years ago and, since then, it has been celebrated all over the world. We think it’s important to carry on this legacy of showing our dads how much we appreciate them.

So, if you can’t be with your dad this Sunday, why not send him a Father’s Day ecard and let him know that you’re thinking of him.

Father’s Day Celebrations Around The World

Wednesday, June 12th, 2013

We have a number of Father’s Day e cards on the Katie’s Cards website and, since we’re thinking of adding more, we’ve investigated some Father’s Day celebrations from around the world for inspiration:

– In Thailand, Father’s Day is celebrated on December 5th – the current King’s birthday. Traditionally, people give their fathers a Canna flower to show their appreciation.

– In Germany, ‘Vatertag’ is said to have been around since the year 1000 and is celebrated today by men gathering together and having a ‘man’s day’ which involves drinking beer and eating lots of food. Hmm…

– In Japan, cards are not usually given on Father’s Day or ‘Chichi no hi’ (父の日). Instead, cologne, sandals and flowers are given as gifts.

How do you celebrate Father’s Day? Are there certain customs or traditions that you honour every year? If so, we’d love to hear from you. We hope that our Father’s Day e cards will suit a range of different tastes but we’re always looking for inspiration and ideas.

Father’s Day Banquet, 1939

Monday, June 10th, 2013

I recently came across this wonderful advert from 1939 when the Savoy Ballroom in Chicago hosted a father and son banquet in honour of Father’s Day.

I can definitely see this inspiring a retro Father’s Day e card

World Oceans Day

Saturday, June 8th, 2013

As you know, here at Katie’s Cards we are passionate about environmental issues. On the 8th of June (today!) people around the world will be holding events to raise awareness about the need to protect the ocean for future generations. The organisers are encouraging people to make a promise to change one habit that will help to protect the ocean. This could be promising to re-use water bottles, to cut down on meat consumption or to take re-usable bags to the supermarket.

Why not take this opportunity to send our Earth Day ecard to your friends? It raises awareness about the dangers of treating the world around us as an endless resource. Additionally, we’d love to hear from you if you’re going to take a pledge for Oceans Day. You can email us at, tweet us or Facebook us.

What does summertime mean to you?

Friday, June 7th, 2013

Now that the sun seems to be shining a little more often, we’ve been discussing what summertime means to us. From childhood memories of strawberry picking and evening football matches in the park, to cream teas by the coast, long bike rides, Wimbledon and picnics on a windy beach … the sights, sounds and smells of summer are now all around us.

What does summer mean to you? We’re based in England but we would love to hear about what summertime means to you wherever you may be in the world. You can contact us by email at, on Twitter or on Facebook. We’ve also put together a Pinterest board of everything that reminds us of summer which you can view here.

Planning a picnic? Then keep these tips in mind…

Thursday, June 6th, 2013

This beautiful sunny weather we’ve been blessed with for the past few days can only mean one thing, it’s time for a picnic! There’s nothing quite like the feeling of settling down on rug and munching on a delicious assortment of treats whilst the sun warms your face. But bear in mind these tips if you’re planning on dining al fresco in the park anytime soon:

1. Living in England, you get used to the heavens opening as soon as you’ve settled down in your picnic spot so make sure you have somewhere you can run to if it starts raining!

2. Keep it simple – sticky foods, ice cream and big heavy dishes probably aren’t the most practical things to take along…

3. Beware of our black and yellow friends! If you take cans of fizzy drinks along, make sure you pour the contents into a plastic cup before drinking in case a wasp has decided to climb in.

4. If you freeze a couple of bottles of water beforehand then they can double up as cool blocks in your picnic hamper!

So there you have it – the tips for a perfect picnic. If you think we’ve missed something essential off the list then don’t hesitate to get in touch!
