Why do we egg-hunt at Easter time? 2012.02.01

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

The custom of egg hunting has become a fun game that is played by children at Easter time all over the world who believe that the Easter Bunny has hidden chocolate eggs for them to find.

Having looked around at various pieces of information on Easter I have found that there are strong symmetries between religion and folklore. It is easy to understand why the egg would symbolise spring being a new beginning, but in Christianity the egg also symbolises the resurrection. The events origins are different for different cultures, religions and countries but the celebrations and symbolism attached to them are all the same or very similar.

Meet the Katies Cards team

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Hi all,

As promised, here are a few snaps to help you get to know me and the rest of the team better.

Our office

First of all, here are two photographs of the Katies Cards office. The building with the bluey-grey ‘Engravers House’ sign above the window is the our office where all of our ecards are created. The building is a converted butchers shop and is bright and airy. There are 3 companies in the building altogether as well as my ceramics studio which was built at the back of the office.

What are you up to this Easter Weekend?

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

We are all looking forward to the long weekend, spending a bit of time with family and friends and celebrating Easter. I have already packed all of the chocolate eggs for the kids as we are going away for a few days holiday. This year has been very busy so far working on the new e cards for katiescards.com and I do feel that I need a little break. So I am really looking forward to enjoying long country walks, Easter activities, pub lunches and evenings around the fire reading a good book and spending time with my loved ones.

Ecards Are Perfect For Easter

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

The big events through the year that have become most popular with Ecards senders have typically been Christmas, Birthdays and Valentines Day. One annual event that seems to have become overlooked is Easter, but it is fact the perfect occasion to send an Easter E card. It is a time of year where we think about and spend time with family and friends, and all those close to us, especially the small ones in our lives who look forward to receiving yummy chocolate Easter eggs.

An Anglo-Saxon legend – Easter bunny and eggs?

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Have you ever wondered why the Easter bunny and eggs are seen together on Easter Ecards?

Well, an Anglo-Saxon legend tells how the Saxon goddess Eostre found a wounded bird and transformed it into a hare, so that it could survive the Winter. The hare found it could lay eggs, so it decorated these each Spring and left them as offering to the goddess.

We have created a new e card for you this Easter, a fun e card which the little ones will love! No egg laying hares I’m afraid, just a troop of dancing rabbits and eggs. Take a peek at our Easter e cards and there are nine different designs and styles of cards so you are sure to find something to suit all your family and friends.

Dancing Easter Eggs and Rabbits, the perfect Easter Ecard?

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

At Katie’s Cards we just love dancing Easter Eggs and Bunnies, so we could not resist filling our new Easter Ecard with them. Inspired by the films of Busby Berkeley and a little nod to Austin Powers with a cool latin 1960s music track.

Send an Ecard ‘just because!’

Monday, March 7th, 2011

We all know that Mother’s day and Easter are just around the corner, perfect ecard sending times of year, but perhaps the nicest reason to send an ecard is for no reason at all. Pick from my big selection of blank cards and write your own personal message. You know how nice it would be to receive a card for no particular reason other than to say ‘I’m thinking of you” or just a plain, simple old ‘have a nice day’.

Looking forward to the Easter Holidays

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Easter weekend is a great time for family and friends to get together. A long weekend just as the weather is beginning to change, flowers are in bloom and the smell of spring is in the air. As you may have guessed, I’m quite a fan of the Easter break!

We like to try and capture this mood in the Easter e cards and feel we have had some success with our previous efforts. What next? Well, a new card is in the pipeline. We feel it’s important to add to the Easter ecard selection as they have proved to be very popular.

An Uninvited Easter Guest

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

When I was nine years old my mother decided to put on a bumper Easter lunch, it would be the first gathering of the whole clan- our family of five and both sets of grandparents, for quite a while.

Easter week was a perfect spring postcard. The blossoms were budding on the branches in our garden by the sea and a little snail of crocuses lined the path down to the Summerhouse. I was volunteered to pick some daises to sprinkle in painted eggcups, my reluctant brothers to fetch daffodils for the vases. On Easter Saturday we all pitched in to lay a special table with yellow candles and napkins and tiny fluffy chicks perched on the table centerpiece. But on the side plates, where usually an Easter egg wrapped in a colourful ribbon would sit, there was nothing!
