The Environmentally Friendly You

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015

Today is Earth Day; a day where events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Protecting our planet is so important and there are so many ways we can go about doing it. While our team here at Katie’s Cards can’t help with every way, we can certainly help with one. Sending ecards is an environmentally friendly way of wishing your friends and family your best wishes for a number of annual events, all while saving paper – and money.

A Snippet of our Earth Day Ecard; Spread the Word

When you think about the number of paper cards you send out every year, that adds up to an awful lot of paper. At Katie’s Cards we don’t just have Birthday ecards, oh no, we also have a huge range of Christmas ecards and greetings for loads of other annual occasions. With a Katie’s Cards membership giving you unlimited sending, just think how much paper, and how many trees, you could be saving.

Now we’re not just advocates of ecards because they’re so kind to the planet, although that’s the main reason we love them –  they also save time. You can send ecards to individuals or to many. You can send them near and far in an instant. Or schedule for a later date if that suits. The point is you can protect the planet with small changes, which are actually beneficial to you. There’s no need to worry if mums Mother’s Day card will get lost in the post, send with Katie’s Cards in an instant.

100 Years of Mother’s Day

Friday, May 9th, 2014

For those of us who celebrate Mom’s Day in March, our day of thanks has passed. Don’t worry though, we haven’t forgotten that in just two short days many of you across the globe will be celebrating the special lady in your life. This year isn’t just any old annual celebration of mom, its the 100th anniversary of Mother’s Day. But hey, no pressure…

She’s endured sleepless nights, tantrums,  and probably been given advice about raising you from people who couldn’t raise an orchid. Let’s face it she deserves the best. So in light of all this, we thought we’d break down our top 3 Mom’s Day e-cards that will definitely count towards an appreciative token of love,

Number #1

The Supermum ecard is definitely one for the good books. This animated ecard shows how super moms really can be!

It’s almost Mother’s Day- a day where we show our gratitude for all the hard work our mother has put in over the years. This gratitude however, cannot be proven with love alone, oh no. It must be proven (and subsequently measured) in the very real form of the ideal gift and card. A gift and card so ideal, it negates 364 days of smug thanklessness.

Let’s face it, it’s a challenge. Finding the perfect gift and card that says just what you want it to say can be oh I don’t know, hard work… to say the least. We must venture out, in to the cold winds, suffer through inside out umbrellas and scour the shops, because she’s worth it (begrudgingly).

Now, we can’t help you out with the gift side of things but we can most certainly help with the card part, oh yes.

So for all those after school activities she took you to that you never had any intention of pursuing, take a look through our Mother’s Day Ecards at Katie’s Cards and find something that’s ideal for her.

Mother’s Day Celebrations Around the World

Friday, May 10th, 2013

This Sunday, Mother’s Day will not only be celebrated in the United States but also in many other countries around the world – from Brazil to the Bahamas, from Hong Kong to Switzerland, and from Tonga to Malaysia.

The origins of Mother’s Day differ from country to country. In Bolivia, for example, the day commemorates a specific battle during the Bolivian War of Independence during which many female fighters were killed. In Israel, it honours Henrietta Szold who rescued Jewish children from the Nazis. In France, Mother’s Day celebrations stem from the early 1900s when the government was concerned with falling birth rates and so it praised the mothers of large families.

Around the world, mothers are treated to flowers, gifts and cards. If you want to make your mum feel extra special this Sunday, then send her one of our lovely Mother’s Day ecards and it will reach her instantly, wherever she may be in the world.

Mother’s Day Water Lilies Ecard

Friday, March 8th, 2013

I’m happy to announce that our water lily ecard, formerly available to send on Chinese New Year, is now available for you to send this Mother’s Day. We gained a lot of positive feedback about this card and so we’re happy to make it available for you to send on another occasion.

The ecard depicts a tranquil pond filled with water lilies where carp swim gracefully around and dragonflies dance on the water’s edge. The ripples in the water eventually reveal the Mother’s Day message…

Mom not Mum

Wednesday, March 6th, 2013

This lovely ecard features a team of little birds who are gathering twigs and flowers to create a special Mother’s Day message for your ‘Mom’. We wanted to cater for those living on the other side of the Atlantic too so, even though Mother’s Day isn’t celebrated in America until May, we wanted to include this ecard in the selection.

The reason why Americans spell ‘mum’ with an ‘o’ instead of a ‘u’ seems to be up for debate … Does anyone know why this is the case?

New ‘Spring Buds’ Mother’s Day Ecard

Things to do on Mother’s Day

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

What you choose to do with your mum on Mother’s Day is obviously dependent on her tastes and interests. However, we thought it might be helpful to put together a list of things you could do to make sure that the day is a special one:

– Take your Mum breakfast in bed – simple, but oh so luxurious. Why not whip up a batch of these blueberry muffins.

– Though bunches of flowers are lovely, give her some seeds or bulbs of her favourite flowers to plant in the garden for a gift that will last a little longer.

– For a tipsy treat, book a trip for the two of you to go wine tasting. If you don’t live near a vineyard then your local wine bar will do.

– If you can’t be together on the day then give your mum a “voucher” promising a day out together, perhaps to the theatre or to a gallery.

Whatever you choose to do, remember that this day isn’t about spending a lot of money – it’s about saying thank you to your Mum for her love and support over the years.

Supermum!

Monday, March 4th, 2013

Let your Mum know that she’s your heroine by sending her this ‘Supermum’ ecard on Mother’s Day. Watch ‘Supermum’ save the world as she rescues a cat from a falling building, kicks an asteroid away from earth and stops a volcano from erupting…all in a day’s work!

Mums are there to swoop to the rescue at so many points throughout our lives and Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to say thank you.

Mother’s Day is almost here…

Saturday, March 2nd, 2013

It’s just over a week until Mother’s Day so, if you’re planning on celebrating with your Mum on the 10th, then it may be wise to confirm your lunch reservation or to plan the meal you’re going to cook for her. If you aren’t lucky enough to be spending Mother’s Day with your Mum, then why not send her an ecard to brighten up her morning?

March – it’s a busy, busy month.

Friday, March 1st, 2013

It seems hard to believe that it’s March already, it seems like only yesterday that we were clearing away those Christmas cobwebs. March is a busy, busy month this year since Easter falls so early. Mother’s Day is celebrated on the 10th in the U.K. and St. Patrick’s Day is on the 17th. The latter will be celebrated in Ireland and, no doubt, around the world: as the saying goes, everyone is a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. Easter falls on March 31st (though it seems like there have been Easter eggs in the shops for months!).

If you fancy celebrating some more unconventional holidays, you may be interested to know that it’s National Noodle Month, National Peanut Month and National Cheerleading Safety Month. I’m afraid we can’t offer you any ecards for those occasions though…

Interesting Mother’s Day Article

Tuesday, February 26th, 2013

I recently stumbled across this article about Mother’s Day in National Geographic magazine. It tells the story of Anna Jarvis who, in 1908, fought passionately for Mother’s Day to be observed. However, she resented the consequent commercialisation of the day and was adamant that it should be known as ‘Mother’s Day’ rather than ‘Mothers’ Day.’ For her, it was about celebrating your mother, not all mothers. It’s an interesting account of the history behind Mother’s Day and adds a poignant element to the “brunch, bouquets and bling” that now characterise the day for many people.

If you want to show your mother just how much you appreciate her, then you can send her one of our beautiful Mother’s Day ecards. In the U.K, Mother’s Day falls on the 10th March this year, while in the United States it will be celebrate on the 12th May.

Mother’s Day

Tuesday, February 19th, 2013

This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 10th March and we have a beautiful selection of ecards that you can send to your mother as a token of appreciation. One of my favourites is the ‘Terrace’ Ecard which depicts a tranquil seascape reminiscent of one of the Greek Islands.
