St. Patrick’s Day Myth-Buster

Saturday, March 16th, 2013

As you are probably aware, tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day. Because we’ve been creating a new St. Patrick’s Day ecard recently, we’ve been busy researching the meaning behind the festival and St. Patrick himself. There have been a few surprises along the way:

  1. The symbolic colour of Ireland and of St. Patrick’s Day used to be blue. It only changed to green when various political groups started to wear green during the 19th Century.
  2. St. Patrick was Welsh, not Irish!
  3. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade was held in Boston in the United States and not in Ireland.
  4. Some cities in the United States including Chicago, Illinois and Savannah, Georgia dye their rivers bright emerald green on March 17th.

So there you have it, four little St. Patrick’s Day facts to impress your friends with tomorrow! On the other hand, why not send them a personalised St. Patrick’s Day ecard containing some St. Patrick’s Day trivia? You can view our full collection of St. Patrick’s Day ecards here.

Saint Patrick and his Guinness

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

In this St. Patrick’s Day ecard, you’ll notice that Ireland’s patron Saint is subtly sipping on a pint of Guinness: an Irish speciality. According to an article about St. Patrick’s Day in National Geographic Magazine, an average of 5.5 million pints of Guinness are drunk around the world each day. On St. Patrick’s Day, this number increases to approximately 13 million!

Traditional St. Patrick’s Day Ecard

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013

We have a small collection of St. Patrick’s Day ecards and many feature mischievous leprechauns and are set to jolly Irish music. This ‘Vintage Harp’ ecard is a little more traditional and is set to lovely Irish folk music.

As the saying goes, everyone is a little Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, so why not spread some Irish cheer and send your friends and family one of our festive ecards.

March – it’s a busy, busy month.

Friday, March 1st, 2013

It seems hard to believe that it’s March already, it seems like only yesterday that we were clearing away those Christmas cobwebs. March is a busy, busy month this year since Easter falls so early. Mother’s Day is celebrated on the 10th in the U.K. and St. Patrick’s Day is on the 17th. The latter will be celebrated in Ireland and, no doubt, around the world: as the saying goes, everyone is a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. Easter falls on March 31st (though it seems like there have been Easter eggs in the shops for months!).

If you fancy celebrating some more unconventional holidays, you may be interested to know that it’s National Noodle Month, National Peanut Month and National Cheerleading Safety Month. I’m afraid we can’t offer you any ecards for those occasions though…
